Meet the Board of Trustees...Paul Schoen

Every volunteer organization needs people who are dedicated to its cause, determined to help it meet its goals and willing to devote hours of time and talent to ensure its success. Paul Schoen, the treasurer of the EBEF, is one of those people. Since becoming a member of the Board of Trustees in 1996, he has worked tirelessly in just about every area of EBEF operations.

Paul’s primary efforts have been in fundraising, both identifying new corporate sources of revenues and increasing revenue raised through ongoing projects. The EBEF receives most of its funds each year from the sale of ads in the program booklet for the annual Partner in Excellence Dinner. He began by working on the booklet for the 1997 dinner and has been in charge of the entire project every year since then. Thanks to his efforts the revenue from the booklet has increased dramatically. He also has written applications for numerous corporate grants and has successfully solicited major donations to the EBEF’s Benefactors Endowment Fund.

A retired CFO of a large corporation, with a master’s degree  in business administration from NYU, Paul brings his considerable expertise in finance to the Foundation. Paul and his family have lived in East Brunswick for 30 years. His wife, Leslie, has been a teacher in the district for 25 years. Their two children are both graduates of East Brunswick High School.

Why did Paul join the EBEF? Having spent his whole business life commuting to New York City, leaving at about 5:30 am and coming home late in the evening every day, he never had time for community work. When he retired after his company moved to North Carolina, he wanted to give something back to the community. He chose the EBEF as the way to accomplish this because he saw that his own children had benefited so much from the schools.
